I’m starting this Go Fund Me Page for some close friends of mine, Cortoney (Joe) & Whitney Rogers. If you have got the chance to meet Joe then it is likely you have shared a few laughs with him. Joe is an extremely hard worker and an amazing father to 5 children despite his illness.
In 2010 Joe was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease, for years it was maintained with medication. Early last year (2016) Joe ended up hospitalized for a week with Acute Kidney Failure after catching the Flu and Pneumonia. This was not the first time that a common illness had hospitalized him for this same reason, but this time he didn’t bounce back. After seeing his Kidney Specialist and having a biopsy ran in June he had officially entered Stage 4 of Chronic Kidney Disease. In November it was decided that he would be put on the Kidney transplant list as he has steadily declined and is expected to be on dialysis within the year.
After speaking with the transplant team it was said that Joe would need to be at a healthier weight before he could be eligible for the transplant list. He will be having a Gastric Sleeve surgery as there is no time to wait, and the list continues to grow. The surgery will have a large out of pocket cost for this family. As a new year has started they will need to pay their deductible up front of $3000 before he is able to have the surgery done. Currently Joe is off work for a surgery he had done last week after a simple procedure had nasty side effects. This family has been hit with medical challenges this last year and is in need of our help.
It is important that this surgery is done as soon as possible, as the end result will allow him to be put on the transplant list. Though they are hoping for a living donor, he still isn’t able to receive a kidney at his current weight. We would love to see Joe go without dialysis as he has 5 active children to keep up with!
Please help this family out, every little bit helps. Money will go towards their out of pocket for the surgery, transportation, co-pays, and financial needs while he is off work.
