Joe Rimelen medical support

Anyone who knows my dad, knows he is proud, stubborn, likes to do EVERYTHING himself, and would never accept handouts. So I’m sure he won’t be pleased when he sees this (those of you who know my dad also just laughed at that understatement!). BUT I’m the realistic, responsible one in our family and being an Accountant, I can’t help but look ahead at cash-flow forecasts and budgets.

On Tuesday 11/24/2020, we rushed my dad to the ER with stroke-like (left side paralysis & face-droop) symptoms.  Shortly thereafter, we discovered the true cause = a lemon-sized brain tumor.  He was immediately scheduled for surgery the next morning.

Initial reports are focused on the positives: the tumor was fully removed, and his left-side is functioning again. But he needs to re-learn motor skills, how to make his left side obey what his brain is telling it to do; learn how to make his arm stop moving up when he’s telling his arm to move down; learning to differentiate between the feeling of someone touching his elbow, versus touching his hand.

The path ahead will also dictate a possible future of chemotherapy and radiation.. we’re still waiting on the pathology reports, and will cross that bridge when we get there.

My dad has been self-employed since 1987… out in the field as a one-man appliance repairman.  When he’s not out there working, there’s no money coming in.  My dad is such a non-stop hard-worker, boasting super-powers of invincibility, he never thought this would be a problem. Now, who knows when he can return to being Mr. Fix-it.
The biggest challenge he is currently facing – is the thing he was best at: using his hands and his problem solving skills to fix anything you put in front of him.

To compound the income problem, my mom, a school bus driver for the past 32 years, is battling a back injury she received from falling down the school bus stairs a few years ago.  She had a disc replacement surgery, but now the surrounding discs are compromised and look to need additional surgery – so she is currently not working either.  While most of us think driving around with a few kids in the car can be chaotic, this is my mom’s dream job and she loves all the kids on her bus.

I know the purpose of these is to raise money – and if you are able to provide donations to assist in the mounting medical bills, we are so grateful for your help.

BUT if you are able to provide love, support, encouraging messages – we welcome those and appreciate them so much too!  Prayers are so invaluable – and we have been feeling them through this challenging time and are so thankful – so please keep them coming. We love you all!! ❤
