Help Joe Recover from Serious Motorcycle Accident

Donation protected
On January 7th my fiancé Joe Sorensen was traveling to work on his motorcycle. Around noon at the intersection of Fred Waring and Portola, a car in front of him unexpectedly braked and he swerved to avoid colliding with the back of the car. Since it had recently rained there was a patch of standing water in the direction he went. After hitting the water, he lost control of the steering and his motorcycle slid out from underneath him and slammed his body into a metal telephone pole at 45 mph. A good Samaritan pulled over and called emergency services after seeing both of Joe’s legs askew and going in opposite directions. Joe was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, which has the best trauma care in the entire Valley. Upon arriving at the hospital Joe immediately underwent trauma surgery to repair his right femur, where they placed a rod and multiple screws. His left leg was placed in traction, a device through his kneecap with a 10-pound weight attached to it, to keep his leg stabilized until he underwent a second surgery on his left femur on January 10th. His left femur was severely fractured in two separate places, and he also broke the iliac wing in his pelvis bone on the left side. He continued to be hospitalized and had his third and final surgery on January 19th, where they placed a plate and screws into his shattered right wrist. He was hospitalized for a total of 17 days and was finally discharged home on January 23rd. He is currently bedridden and will need to get around by wheelchair for an undetermined amount of time. With lots of physical therapy and hard work, he should be able to transition to a walker and ultimately make a full recovery down the road. He will be unable to work for many months but will return to work when cleared by his physician. In the meantime, we are facing lots of medical bills on top of our normal monthly bills such as rent, car insurance, and groceries. Our families live in Tucson and Portland and we are basically alone in the desert. I (Kinsey) will be Joe’s full-time caregiver until he can become more independent, and I am taking lots of time off work as well. Prior to Joe’s accident, we were already living paycheck-to-paycheck, struggling to make ends meet in today’s world. If anyone can bless us with a donation towards our monthly and medical expenses as we face this uncertain future, we would be beyond grateful. We felt God’s light shining upon Joe and know his life was saved for a reason. We thank you for taking the time to read what Joe has gone through, and any small donation would help us greatly in staying afloat until we can both return to work full-time.
