On the morning of November 5th our lives were changed forever. My grandmother had gone to a breakfast at her church, my grandfather stayed home because that morning he just wasn't feeling to well and needed to rest. While she was away he decided to journey into Waterboro to run some errands...mainly they needed to replace a part on their pellet stove so they would be able to have heat. He made it approximately 8 miles from home when the drivers behind him said he looked like he was reaching for something when he swirved off from the road a little, he noticed his mistake and tried to manuever his ford explorer back onto the road way, unfortunately the shoulder before the embankment was just too soft and could not handle the weight of his truck (his truck was freighted down with tools that he used for work) he over-corrected his turn and flipped. It is unclear on the exact number but it was anywhere from 3-5 times his explorer flipped before coming to a rest back on its tires in the middle of West Shore Rd. He was then life flighted to Maine Medical Center where he underwent an 8hour surgery. His neck is completely broken in two and his spinal cord was severed. He is now paralyzed from the chest down. A man that has always been a very hands on worker will now never walk again. He will never fully regain the use of his wrists and hands. He will be wheel chair bond for the rest of his life. He has been in the hospital a few weeks so far in the Special Care Unit but he still has a long road of recovery ahead of him. After he leaves MMC he will be transfered to New England Rehab in Portland where he will go through approximately 6 months +/- of intense rehab. We are turning to the public to help keep them going. This money will be used to help with medical bills, food, transportation, mortgage payements, health insurance, remodeling their home to be handicap friendly and any other expenses that may come along. We are so thankful for friends and family. Your donation will make a huge difference in easing their financial worries as he is trying to recover. Thank you and God bless!
