Joe Medico’s Recovery from the Airport Fire (California)

Donation protected
My dad has been living off the grid for 20+ years at the top of Ortega Highway. He had a rugged setup with a shipping container, but it was a lifestyle he loved. In 2018, the Holy Jim Fire ripped across his hilltop and destroyed the majority of his living space. But he rebuilt. He created another place of serenity for himself.

On Monday afternoon (9/9/2024), a co-worker told me about a fire in Trabuco Canyon. Overnight, the fire doubled. Looking at perimeter maps, it looked like it was headed toward my dad’s place. Again. He assured me at 1:30 pm that afternoon that it wasn’t coming near, but he was away from the area and the roads closed, so he couldn’t really tell what was happening up there. At 8 pm, he got the news that his place was once again devastated by fire, along with the homes of surrounding friends. He could save nothing. All he had is what’s in his car.

My dad is 74 years old and on a fixed income. He is resilient and tenacious. He is always ready to help others. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I am Joe Medico’s daughter. Any money collected will go directly to him to rebuilt his existence. It may or may not be in the same place, but he will continue to live the life he loves on his terms.
