Hi, my name is Joe. I'm 45 years old and a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer that has metastasized to my lymph nodes and hip bone. My wife, Mindy, is a social work ninja and I have two amazing boys. Nate is 22 and Alex will be 18 in January. Both of them live with us. We also have two pugs, Punky and Winnie and a fluff ball cat, Cinnamon Girl. I have worked for the same company for 17 years, but now I am unable to work. My hip hurts all of the time. It's hard to walk, and I have a cough that won't quit. I had my first chemotherapy session last week. Next week I start radiation. Even with health insurance, cancer treatments are extremely expensive. Not to mention the stress of trying to keep our monthly bills paid and keep food on the table. This disease has been devastating for myself and my family in every way possible. I have been told that my cancer is not curable, only treatable. I will need some sort of treatment for the rest of my life and I do not know how much time I have. This is why I'm asking for help.
