Joe Jordan Medical Fund

My partner was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney disease last month. This was a terrifying addition to the congestive heart failure that he’s already been battling. We went to the hospital thinking it was the usual heart failure complications so finding out that his kidneys failed on top of this was devastating. These are not things you expect to deal with when you’re just 32.

Dealing w the healthcare system here has been a humbling experience for both of us, honestly, and constant support (in every sense of the word) from the ppl closest to us have kept us going and we can’t thank them enough. Hospital bills and prescriptions are just the beginning (even w insurance when/if they ever decide to send the insurance info...it’s been almost a 2 month wait so far). Our hope is for me or close family to donate our kidneys but even still, it costs to travel to each facility to even get tested and this consists of several trips for multiple rounds of tests. This area apparently has the highest rate of kidney disease and it could take YEARS to get a transplant here, so the doctors said that traveling to different facilities out of state is our best bet. Daily dialysis is a challenge within itself and he needs to suffer for at least a year to *maybe* qualify for disability.

If you aren’t close with Joe it might be hard to picture the very real struggle he is dealing with behind these medical issues bc he’s typically the brightest, most infectious person in the room and he doesn’t like pity parties. Even though we don’t know if “getting back to normal” is a realistic possibility, at least until he can get a transplant, what we do know is that Joe just wants to continue living his dream of making ppl feel good through his music for as long as he can and he’s too damn stubborn to throw in the towel.

I know this is asking a lot bc we’re all struggling in our own way. I just want Joe to have the best shot possible at beating this. Even if you don’t donate, if you or anyone you know has any experience w kidney failure, kidney donations, or knows of any support groups we would really, really appreciate the info. The bills are just the surface and moral support is just as valuable. Thanks for reading.
