Joe was on vacation in Oregon with Cathy when he started experiencing some concerning symptoms. They went to the local hospital where he was diagnosed with a brain bleed and told surgery was needed. He was transported to a bigger hospital to have it, and surgery went well. It was worse than they had anticipated, but he made it through like the tough guy he is. Joe experienced a roller coaster of recovery while in the ICU after surgery. He is now at yet another hospital, where they are focusing more on rehabilitation. He has a long road ahead of him. Joe has been able to speak clearly, and stand with help. He is working hard at his physical therapy, he recognizes how important it is.
The doctors say this would've happened whether he had traveled to Oregon or not. By the coincidence that he was in Oregon when it happened, he needs a medical flight to get home. The estimated cost of the medical flight is $26,000-32,000. Medicare unfortunately is not able to help with any of the cost for transportation home.
We have been in contact with a rehab center in the Twin Cities. By bringing him to his home state, he will be surrounded by his family to support him. Recovery will be faster and more motivated. He will be able to see his grandkids for the first time in weeks.
Joe is one tough guy and he is fighting to recover every day.
