Joe Hatfield's Cancer Journey
The Why:
When someone has cancer, the whole family & everyone who loves them does too...
Imagine living a wonderful life - spending over 40 years with your soul mate, enjoying your children and grandchildren, only to find out cancer is at your doorstep. 
This is a daily realization for Joe Hatfield, who was diagnosed last year with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer with liver metastasis. Historically, this prognosis is very poor with an average survival rate of 2.5 years. His liver is the primary concern at this point, as surgery is not an option due to multiple spots in different lobes of the liver.
Up until this point, he has undergone several surgeries, chemotherapy, and countless trips to the James Cancer Hospital for treatment. Currently, they are waiting on an MRI to determine a further treatment plan, whether it be radioactive seed placement or targeted chemotherapy directly into the liver. They are not sure about a timeframe and no promises are ever made when it comes to cancer. Their family is striving to enjoy their time together now, praying for good treatment, and trying to give their dad the best quality of life while he’s here.
We Need Your Help:
Shortly after Joe's diagnosis and surgery last year, he was unable to continue working to provide for his family. Susan, an Executive Assistant at The Ohio State University, continues to work full-time, also managing Joe's weekly care, transporting him to and from endless doctor appointments. Their three children, Amanda, Lola, and Joe, have also been juggling the care of their dad while maintaining their daily lives.
Regardless of insurance, medical bills have become overwhelming and is something that is on their minds 24/7. In addition, medication Joe is required to take is expensive, adding more stress to the situation.
Joe and Susan would love to take a vacation in the near future, creating more memories with their family. Surprisingly, Joe has never been to the ocean, so his dream is to go there with his family. Raising this money will provide funding to pay household bills, daily living costs, and a small vacation to the beach.

Susan and Joe did not ask me to create this campaign - nor would they want to even ask for assistance during this time. I work closely with Susan at Ohio State, and have witnessed the impact cancer has had on their lives over the last year. I would love if our community could take care of Joe & Susan, as they are truly the most selfless individuals I have ever met. They deserve all the happiness in the world.
