Joe Foot Mobility Fund - New Assistance Needed

Message from Joe Foot:

Hello to my Internet family. I’m coming back to you all with a story and a donation request if possible.

I had my accident back in December 2014 I was confined to a wheelchair that I had to work with my head because the rest of my body did not work. I vowed to myself to walk again and to be able to play with my daughter and help be a part of her life. That was against every doctor’s response, “you will not walk again”.

Every day since my accident has been a learning experience. All my exercise has been done at the community college and outpatient therapy at St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital. That was covered by Medicare and Medi-Cal. That gives me 90 days on and 90 days off. Once you get going and start to see some results your off for 90 days. I continued to work out once a week at the community college sharing a helper with the other patients.

Then the pandemic hit, and I started working out at home doing a very rigorous exercise program. I’d be more than happy to share that with anyone that is interested. I tried registering for a program that lasted four months, but you must be within your first year of injury. I asked for a grant and again was turned down because my injury is eight years old.

So, I heard of a company called SCI-FIT about three years ago and they were going to open an exercise facility up in Santa Rosa. Well, three years later they finally rented a building and equipment along with hiring staff and their up and running in Petaluma, Ca. Look them up on the Internet. In any event I have signed up with them for one month and have started working out.

Well as you will see in the attached video I am walking without my crutches or my leg braces just the man behind me keeping me from falling right or left, forward or back. I am very determined to walk again and be self-sufficient. It’s a one-on-one program where for one hour I get an intense workout with a professional that knows what they’re doing. They videotaped the exercises, and I will send you clips now and then to show you, my progress. I, feel this is the right tool for me to progress to the next level.

The cost per hour session is $115. That price decreases the more times you work out during the week.

I’m a very determined and driven individual and never listened to doctors or other people that have a negative view of my injury. Now you can see how smart I am. Not very but I am bound and determined to see this through and to be walking again. What else is there to do during the day. I am not going to sit feel sorry for myself.

Here’s the hard part for me, if you can spare to donate anything it would be very appreciative. God bless you all and thank you for your generosity.
