This morning Joe Castillo lost his family home to a horrific fire. He was asleep in the home when he smelled smoke. He was able to get out with his life, however his home is a complete loss.
Joe and his wife came to Temple in the late 1980s. The raised their family here - in that home - for more than 30 years. They watched their children, grandchildren , and even great grandchildren grow into adults from those very porch steps. Sadly it's all gone. With little to no things surviving the fire. Surprisingly, a photo of his late wife painted for her memorial service was one of the few things to be damaged but did survive.
Joe lost his wife only one and a half years ago, after 54 years of a happy, magical marriage full of so so much love. He's already had such a tough time since his wife passed away in September 11, 2021.
Joe served in the Air Force in the 1960s. He retired 10 years ago from civilian job at Artco Bell here in Temple Texas! He has been living off his retirement benifits since, which is just enough to get by in today's economy. Let alone pay the home taxes, and day to day food, medical and living expenses. He was unfortunately unable to have and maintain home owners insurance in his retirement days. Just like most folks living from their retirement benefits.
I have been a friend of Joe's daughter Summer for 30 years. I have watched this man raise generations in the very home he has lost today. He is a very hands on grandpa and very involved with all his kiddos. He is supposed to be living in comfort and peace in these years. After all he's done for our country, our community, and his family he deserves a break He has been dealt a pretty rough hand as of late.
Mr. Castillo is not a man to ask for hand outs. He has worked very hard in his 76 years on this earth and rarely in those 76 years has he had to ask for help!
Now he is in a time of need. He is a long time member of our community. He has fought for our country's freedom! He has successfully raised upstanding citizens of the community.
NOW HE NEEDS OUR HELP!
please find it in your hearts to donate something to help Joe Castillo and his family. He will need assistance getting back in his feet. Anything helps and I mean anything. If you can't donate please share!!!!!
