Buenas yan Hafa Adai Everyone
My name is Josh Torres; I am from the island of Guam Toatao Hågat but moved to San Diego, California in 2014. I started this Gofundme to help raise money to Kickstart my Food truck business. The funds raised will go towards acquiring a food truck set up to meet the needs of the business, all proper permits and licensing, marketing, Equipment and supplies. My Food truck menu will include Chamoru BBQ and some of Guam's traditional comfort dishes. What is Chamoru food? It is comfort food with a mix of savory, spicy, tangy and sweet dishes influenced by local, Spanish, japanese, Filipino and other cuisine that has been adapted during the colonization of Guam. My goal is to put out food that will bring a little bit of home to the U.S.
A little back story to this journey of opening up my own food truck and the reasoning behind the name. I am the eldest grandson on both sides of my family. Both my grandpas were well known and respected men Joseph (Joe Buck) Torres familian Bakulu and Vicente (Benny) Salas familian Paledao. Both have unfortunately passed, but were known for being robust, humble and great cooks. When it came to hosting Fiestas, birthdays or any celebration, they went all out to prepare a huge feast and would welcome anyone to come and eat. My inspiration is based off that admiration doing what they love and making people happy through food. The biggest inspiration is my grandpa Joseph, he was on his way to opening up his very own restaurant and all the plans were in motion along with the venue, but then he got sick and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and shortly after passed before finalizing his dream. So I proudly name my business after him to honor his vision and do this for both of us, and I just want to make both of my grandpa's proud. I truly appreciate any donation and it will surely help make this dream a reality.
Si Yu'us Ma'ase!
Thank you!
