Sgt. Joe Britte was on a destination cruise with his family for the wedding of his son when the unthinkable occured. His mother Adelaide Britte fell ill on the ship. When they returned to port in Miami, Florida she had to be transported by ambulance where she has been in ICU since September 2, 2017. Joe has not left his mother during this tradegy to ensure she has the best possible care. During this time, Joe has had to take a leave of absence from his job with GPD due to using all his banked paid time off. As with any tragedy, there are cost that mount in a short time and Joe's wife had to return home to work to keep at least one income coming in. While Joe has been using savings to keep things on track we all know that only goes so far, especially with the extended amount of time he has had to be out of work and not receiving a paycheck. It is not exactally clear how much longer Joe and his mother will be in Miami but he is hopeful that within a week or so they can transport his mother back to Gainesville to be treated in ICU here. Joe has given nearly 20 years of service to his community and is very prideful. To ask for help is not in the nature of a public safety officer but it is truly needed. Not only will your financial gifts help Joe and his family with daily life, but your prayers are also needed for the recovery of his mother who is so dear to Joe. Any amount that you can give will greatly help with the financial healing of the family that takes one less burden off of them in this crisis. On behalf of the Britte family, thank you for your support.
