Do You Know Joe?
Joe Bedolla has lived and worked at Berryessa Highlands for more than 13 years. He has worked for more than 60 families in our community and is frequently recommended on NextDoor when residents are looking for work to be done. One thing we especially appreciate about Joe is that he has done a lot of weed whacking to help create defensible space for our community. No one has done a better job of this than Joe – he combines hard work with efficiency. His work has helped to keep our properties safe during wildfire situations like the recent LNU Lightning Complex fire.
Joe has helped our community for many years, and now it’s Joe who needs some help from us. Because Joe charges a fair price for his services, and does not take advantage of the residents, he doesn’t have a lot of money in reserve. He lost virtually everything: his rented home on Arroyo Grande, including all of his possessions, his tools, and his work truck (which he saved for a long time to buy!). He was away from home when the evacuation order was issued and the only thing Joe was able to save was his dog - with the help of a neighbor. Joe did not have renter’s or comprehensive auto insurance, so none of his losses are covered by any insurance. It will be very difficult for him to get back up on his feet. But, we know that Joe is very resilient. He really wants to come back to the Highlands - his home for many years – and we know that Joe can do this.
He plans to continue working in the Berryessa Highlands because this is his home and he is dedicated to our community. Let’s return the favor of many years of hard work for us by making it a little easier for him to return home. It would truly be a devastating loss to our community if Joe cannot return due to the losses he sustained in the LNU Lightning Complex fire.
If you’ve met Joe, you already know the value of his contributions to our community. If you haven’t yet met Joe yet and want to learn more about him and his situation, take a moment to read this article: https://napavalleyregister.com/news/local/lake-berryessa-residents-return-to-homes-devastated-by-napa-county-wildfire/article_117dec08-f778-5285-8999-43367a0eb5a3.html
Any funds you can contribute to this GoFundMe will go directly to Joe to help him get resettled in our community. He needs work tools, clothing, personal and household items, a reliable vehicle, and a new rental. We know this is a difficult time for all of us, but without Joe, our community just won’t be the same. Please help us to help Joe.
If you are not currently in a position to donate funds, but you can help in other ways (donate tools, a vehicle, provide affordable local housing rental, etc.) then please consider that as well.
