In 2013 her eldest son out of a set of twins was diagnosed with an eye condition called Achromotopsia and then later that year he was diagnosed as being on the Autistic Spectrum and required special education and therapy, which led her on a quest to secure his much needed treatments and needs for his continued development. In that same year she took over the day to day care of her ailing grandmother who passed away in September of that same year. Immediately following, her mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and Jody once again kicked into action tirelessly ensuring that she was cared for.
In 2014, due to mounting bills associated with the care of her special needs child, she lost her home.
In the Winter of 2016, Jody noticed a change in her own body and knew that she could not ignore or will what ever it was away, it required her immediate attention. After numerous trips to the Cleveland Clinic, she received the diagnosis in June 2017, three days before her birthday, …it was Stage 3 Breast Cancer!
Jody’s team of both Oncologists & Surgeons have recommended immediate chemotherapy treatments, followed by a double mastectomy, radiation and hysterectomy. I am happy to say that Jody has completed all of the treatments and surgeries recommended and is recovering well.
Since beginning chemotherapy in July 2017, Jody has been unable to go back to full time work for not more than four months; subsequently, without her normal income, her usual bills, which include therapy for her son, and now additionally her medical expenses, bills have increased tremendously!
