Jody Krug Pancreatic Cancer Surgery Fund

Hey all, this is Jody’s husband Steve and we find ourselves in a bit of a spot.

In December of 2020, Jody had an out of nowhere bout of pancreatitis that started a journey that has lead us to a cancer diagnosis. She was diagnosed with a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor that ultimately was found on the outside of her pancreas and with these types of slow growing cancers the only really effective treatment is surgery. It was decided that a Whipple procedure would be performed to remove the tumor, this is a very extensive and difficult procedure that involves not only removing the part of the pancreas that had the tumor on it but also the gall bladder, part of the stomach, and part of the small intestine and everything has to be rerouted and reattached. On June 6th the operation was performed in Iowa City and it took over 8 hours. She is still in recovery at the University of Iowa Hospital through likely the end of this week and will be recovering for as much as 12 weeks. For potentially a lot of that time she will be unable to work and unfortunately like a lot of us, we are a two income home and this will be extremely difficult for us to get through financially. Her employer has set her up to do some work from home once she’s feeling up to it which is great but that will likely be quite a ways off and won’t be full time. We are both not the type of people to ask for help, we try to be the ones helping, but unfortunately this is where we are. We’ve seen out of pocket estimates for this procedure and recovery for as much as $50,000. Hopefully it won’t reach those levels but even a quarter of that seems insurmountable with just my income, (I have a good job but nowhere near THAT good). So that brings us here. If you are in the position to give us a hand that would be incredible. Any funds donated would be used to help with medical expenses and lost wages while Jody is recovering.
