My name is Jodi Bezanson and I'm currently a Freshman at Salve Regina University. I've been double majoring in Sociology/ Anthropology and Global Studies. I've decided to take a jump and apply what I've learned so far, and what comes naturally to me, to the real world.
I applied for an Internship in Panama (The Republic of Panama in Central America) earlier this month and I've so graciously been accepted. The program that I applied through is called Kalu Yala Institute. I suggest giving their page a peek, as they stand for making this world a better place in many different ways and they can explain their mission more in depth. (https://kaluyala.com)
I'm incredibly interested in learning about new cultures and searching for other ways of living, besides what I'm used to now. With the knowledge that I learn throughout my travels, I want to be able to change the very narrow minded thought processes of the people I known today and in the future. I want to apply my experiences to helping people live more simplified lives and less materialistic lives. I believe that you find this simplified way of living by submerging yourself into another's culture and accepting their ways instead of teaching yours. This is something that I feel Kalu Yala will let me accomplish and experience. Another important part of Kalu Yala is living sustainably. They are trying to find and create new ways and forms of living without damaging the Earth we live on. This is incredibly important because we only have one Earth and we have already destroyed it on so many levels.
Until I leave for Kalu Yala, I will work as many jobs as I can pick up, while hopefully taking a few online classes. After my trip, I will then go back to school in the 2017-2018 academic year and apply what I've learned during my internship to my education (Kalu Yala offers credentials towards colleges too, which would also go hand in hand with my two majors!)
I will leave for Panama on January 20, 2017. My first payment of $750 is due April 6, 2016 (30 days after acceptance). The rest is due 90 days before I leave for my trip which would be October 25, 2016.
While I know that there are many causes that need funding, I'm very appreciative of any likes, shares or amount of money donated towards helping me get to Panama. I thank you in advance!
