JOCK TAMSON'S BAIRNS - PROTECT THE DOLLS

It's been a hot minute since staging Jock Tamson's Bairns, but I'm passing the hat right now to generate some match funding towards a Creative Scotland bid to reinvigorate the show to reflect our values in 2026.

Anything you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Donors will of course be given access to preview performances and kept up to date with our progress.

Our 2019 tour for LGBT History Month and subsequent presentation at the Edinburgh Festival were both met with great acclaim. Audiences loved it. Critics got excited by it. We won awards. We were nominated for others. The show was taught as part of Scotland's National Curriculum. It was all going great, and preparation was underway for a number of international dates... and then LOCKDOWN.

Borders closed. Venues soon followed suit, and eventually our sector came to a grinding halt.

We licked our wounds and moved on.

Since then the world has changed. A lot. And the queer community has even bigger fish to fry than when we first took to the stage. Later in the year, I'm staging a new version of the show that will tackle some of the more pressing issues we deal with as a society... but once more, it will all be rooted in the creation of a brilliant party night out.

To make this happen we need time, money and experts to help develop a show that's ready to take on the haters full throttle. You've seen me do this before with TERF, arguably the toughest gig of my life... but after it all calmed down I was left with one lingering regret... we went way too easy on her. Audiences wanted more from us. She should have been pilloried. This time, I'll do better by you.

‘consistently powerful’ – The List

You go to a club to watch some drag. The music is great. The performances are on point, the booze is flowing freely and the room is filled with laughter. Someone says something stupid. Possibly transphobic. Do you challenge them?

‘An attitude of collectiveness and comfort that few companies achieve’ – The Skinny

Part drag, part cabaret and part theatre, Jock Tamson’s Bairns is an immersive show where the audience is transported to an after hours queer bar and invited to speak their mind. No topic is taboo, but a respect for your fellow humans is compulsory.
