Jocelyn Strickland’s Cancer Treatment Fund
Don protégé
My name is Hannah and I am trying to raise money to help my mother-in-law fight cancer. She has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma. We were completely caught off guard by this diagnosis- as she has been in remission from breast cancer since 2018. It’s devastating to think that she is having to go through this not once, but twice in one lifetime. Even though she’s staying strong and ready to fight this, the words affordable and easy will not be used to describe the days/weeks/months and even years ahead. She and her husband work full time and fortunately her job has been very generous and understanding with this situation, but even so- being out of work for weeks with no pay isn’t easy. Add hospital visits, scans, surgeries, deductibles and much much more to that and it becomes even more difficult to survive.
Jocelyn has not only impacted my life for the better, but so many others. She really is one of the kindest people you will ever meet and she didn’t deserve any of this. She has two children (pictured) Alex and Gretta, two grandchildren and a husband who love her more than anything in the world. Our family is doing everything we can do to help her and her husband Donald who has also been out of work due to multiple hospitalizations and doctors appointments to help Jocelyn. He’s been by her side every step of the way and plans to continue to be there for her.
If you are unfamiliar with Squamous Cell Carcinoma (like we were) here’s what we know- it is a type of skin cancer that can originate at any point on the body that comes in contact with air. Though it’s classified as a skin cancer it can (and unfortunately in Jocelyn’s case has) spread to multiple other organs. The treatment plan is very aggressive and tiresome as of now she is receiving treatment once every three weeks. All Alex and I want (and need) is for her to focus on getting better we don’t want her to be worried about how she’s going to afford her treatments or how they’re going to pay their bills. Unfortunately, we are still waiting to hear back from her insurance about whether or not they will pay since it’s “technically” a skin cancer. Even still, the financial strain the last few weeks and the foreseeable future will create for her and Donald will be substantial with or without insurance. We know times are tough and if you can’t donate we understand. All that we ask is that you please keep all of us in your prayers. Any donation (even sharing) is appreciated more than you know.
She has a very long bumpy road ahead but she’s beat cancer once, I know she’ll do it again. We are going to continue to put our faith in God’s plan and be there to support her no matter what. Thank you all and God bless
