Jocelyn Barrett Kayaking Legacy

Everyone who knew Jocelyn knows that she touched the hearts, minds, and souls of so many people both through her work, and adventurous spirit. She was passionate about everything in her life from EMDR, to kayaking and spending time with her grandchildren. Her leaving this earth will and has created a void for many people. I would like to replace that void with a tribute to her that many people can enjoy for generations to come.
The goal of this go fund me is to raise capital to create a physical memorial on the Deerfield river: her favorite place to kayak in the summer.
There are three options being discussed, all of which I told to my mom in the last days that she could communicate. The one she liked the best is #3, which of course is a grand endeavor, but truly would be amazing
#1. A stone bench at the take out above The Gap, the biggest rapid on her favorite Fife section. This is where everyone gets out to look at the last rapid or walk around to the take out just below. Very often people are found sitting on their kayaks in this area.
#2. A marble signpost that has her name and dates of life placed along the path next to The Gap rapid. It would also have the inscription, “I paddled this rapid at age 82. I would have paddled it at age 83, but ran out of time. If your boat is on your shoulder and you’re walking downstream, you need to turn around go back up. Get into your boat, because you’ve got this.” Mom helped so many people overcome their fears and believe in themself. This would help a stranger know her essence in a few seconds.
#3. A man-made rapid or wave feature. Out in Reno, where her grandkids live, there are two white water parks. Mom always reveled at how perfectly formed the waves were, and how safe and enjoyable for young and old to enjoy the river. The first time she paddled the man made course, she immediately wished that her backyard run, the Deerfield, had such a perfect section of rapids and waves. All across the country, towns are creating rapids / wave features. This attracts more tourists to the area because these man made waves are so fun to surf in a kayak and sometimes on a surf board. This endeavor is obviously not cheap and requires a lot of moving pieces to come into place. This was the one my mom got the most excited about.
Once created, I would encourage anyone who knew and loved her to come appreciate the created legacy at the river she adored, and to listen to the sound of the river and her voice hidden within.
