Joaquin’s stroke journey

My husband Pedro Joaquin Vargas came to the USA when he was only 9 years old with limited resources but with unlimited dreams. He was driven to always do his best in all he aspired. Before the stroke he was the financial manager for Honda dealership, with great attitude towards life,  Awesome dad to our 3 children, and a loving husband !! 



But on On June 19,2019 fear and heartache hit our family, Pedro Joaquin Vargas age 37, showed symptoms of a stroke while playing outside with our 3 children Emma,Amy and Joaquin Tito. Our oldest daughter Emma immediately noticed something wasn’t right with her dad and followed him inside the house, we were terrified to see Joaquin’s weak body stumbled to the ground, we rushed him to the hospital to find out that he had a blood clot in his carotid artery causing severe damages to his brain that has affected his lost of movements on his right side of the body, has speech and memory impairments,  He depends on a feeding tube and tracheotomy for breathing. Within matter of days my husband went from being strong and active to someone who would need assistance with walking, grooming, bathing and performing all task he previously did without any help. 

While Joaquin makes progress, there is still a lot to be done, with my support, I will make sure he gets all the care and treatments he needs to get him back to his children and have a better quality of  life next to us. 

We are forever grateful for his progress, we are thankful for the divine power of prayers. With God’s Grace He’ll have his life back. We are endlessly appreciated of all the calls, messages, visits from friends and family.

Querida familiares y amigos

Gracias a todos los que se han tomado tiempo para visitar a Joaquín y por comunicarse con mi hija Mariuxi por medio de mensajes, email y FB Joaquin será elevado por sus oraciones y por sus palabras de bondad y aliento. 

En Junio 19, 2019 hubo un lamentable suceso, mi yerno Pedro Joaquin Vargas a sus cortos 37 años de edad demostraba síntomas de derrame cerebral,  mientras  jugaba con sus hijos en el jardín de su hogar. Su hija mayor Emma se percató que algo no estaba bien con su papi y lo siguió hasta el baño para luego correr a notificar a su mami que su papa estaba hablando incoherencias y haciendo muecas en el baño, vivieron momentos de terror al ver que Joaquin no tenía fuerzas y sin poder hablar. Lo llevaron de inmediato al hospital, para luego saber que tenía un coágulo en la arteria carótida provocando severo daños cerebrales. Como resultado del derrame el ha perdido sensación de la parte derecha de su cuerpo, hay señales de trastornos del habla y gravemente perjudicada su memoria corta. 

Queremos reconocer que hay muchas formas de expresar apoyo, y son en estos tiempos difíciles que buscamos ayuda para los tratamientos de Joaquín, los cuales serán agresivos, severos y a largo plazo, Los cuales incluyen terapia física, cognitiva, ocupacional y de lenguaje, tratamiento de cédulas madres, oxigeno hiperbarico, dispositivos protesico, estimulante electrónico- walk aide, silla de rueda, caminador, modificaciones en la casa( baño, cuarto, escalones, rampa)visitas médicas, medicina y suplementos.  Todo gasto resultara una carga fuerte de necesidades médicas, pero con su ayuda le permitirá que Joaquin tenga una mejor calidad de vida a lado de su precioso Familia. 

Estamos eternamente agradecidos con Dios por su progreso, mientras Joaquin avanza con pasos de bebé hay todavía mucho que hacer por el, mi hija Mariuxi y familiares se harán cargo encarecidamente de la rehabilitación de Joaquín. Cualquier ayuda pequeña que sea harán grandes cambios a la vida de un ser humano que se merece una vida digna a lado de su preciosa familia.
