Joan’s Breast Cancer Healing Journey

Joan’s Healing Journey.... Everything started to move really fast when the word "cancer" was spoken through the phone to me after my mammogram and ultrasound results were back.

The decision to take a step back and listen to what my gut was telling me was something I could not ignore.

Sticking with the decision to take the time to research, learn and proceed without conventional treatment has turned out to be an opportunity for me to grow and heal as a whole person. I think it's about feeling connected.

Connected to myself and my spiritual beliefs. Connected to family, friends and nature. Connecting to other people who are going the same path through holistic healing.

Connecting to people through what I've learned about Food as Medicine is my REAL passion. Apparently God may have seen a way for me to follow that path.

I know I am taking a treatment path that some would not choose. I can change it at any time. Either way, it's an expense we were not prepared to incur.  I respect the fact that we all get to choose. That's crucial.

Medical insurance through Jerry's employer is a wonderful thing to have. I'm grateful for the security that it brings. We went without health insurance for almost 2 years, so I really mean it when I say I'm grateful.

There is no insurance coverage for my holistic healing journey yet. Non-coverage for ND's (Naturopathic Doctors) and Holistic Oncologists is the norm for now. The expenses are all up front.

Changes needed to be made. My choice to extend my real estate business to be part of a bigger team was a huge thing for me. That choice results in a reduction of my income, but an increase in my time needed to heal. If you know much about the last few years in our family, we have been caring for ageing parents, two of whom have recently passed away.

I am confident that I've made the best choice with all of the options available to me for my business and income source.

Patrick Florence, with the Columbus Team of Keller Williams Capital Partners and his team are saving me from closing up shop. I know my clients are being well cared for and that is a wonderful feeling!  The Real Estate business is no joke, especially in this new COVID environment. There is an Angel on earth who got things rolling for me. She knows who she is.

I still need to do my best to keep income coming in so I can pay for as much as possible of our out-of-pocket expenses.

Jerry and I have a deductible for our insurance and we had not had any medical expenses until April.  We now have medical bills to pay toward the deductible and then any covered treatments should be good from there.   Who knows what would or could be covered in the future.  So far, a few of the blood tests are being submitted to my insurance. We'll see.

We appreciate the love, kind words and support from everyone. People are telling me I'm on their prayer lists.  That's very comforting right now.

I am working on shaking off and letting go the feeling of being so vulnerable and needing to lean on others for help.  I am the helper, always have been.

I pray for peace and good sleep (like at least 7 hours in a row without waking up!)
