Hello, my name is Tisha and I’m raising funds for my older sister, Pia who has just recently passed away yesterday on Friday 2 May 2025. 4 weeks ago, Pia was rushed to the hospital and was admitted to ICU with septic shock. She was barely conscious and the family had to make the heartbreaking decision and give consent to have a below-the-knee amputation to her right leg. She was also suffering from multiple organ failure on top of her immune-deficiency, osteoporosis and diabetes from previous illnesses. The symptoms are too many to write here now. She, amongst many many other procedures, had to endure multiple kidney dialysis and blood transfusions per week, being intubated and still had high fevers due to multiple bacterial and fungal infections. Our drs urged for another, above-the-knee amputation and to administer a tracheostomy. Her arms were swollen with cellulitis, the doctors had nearly run out of veins to access. After many family meetings, and no real improvement after 4 weeks in ICU and her Drs telling us we were “very close to futility” and she was no longer responding, we decided as a family to sign a DNR and call a priest to give her her final rights. God bless her for hanging on as she left us very shortly after that. At least she wasn’t in pain. And we do sincerely believe she held out in order to say goodbye. As you could imagine, the ICU bills are very high at well over the A$100k I’ve set for the GoFundMe even after private health insurance. Honestly, any donation would help. Personally, I miss her terribly and keep painfully forgetting that she is no longer with us. She has left us with a devoted husband, 4 sons, an elderly mother and father and 3 siblings.
