Joanna's Kids “R” It needs your Help

Dear friends, family, and community,

Our long-standing gymnastics and dance company, Joanna’s Kids “R” It, is facing an urgent challenge — and we need your help.

For 40 years, Joanna’s Kids “R” It has been more than just a gymnastics and dance program. It’s been a second home for children and adults to grow stronger, build confidence, learn discipline, and experience the joy of movement. Our athletes, from beginners to our highest-level team members, work hard every week under the guidance of caring coaches who believe in each child’s potential.

Now, due to unexpected financial challenges, we are at risk of losing this incredible program. The Recreation & Park District that contracts for these programs has mandated additional insurance coverage that carries an extremely hefty insurance premium for sexual assault & molestation coverage.

We believe that the program doesn’t fall into the category of “at risk” youth, as we do not have one-on-one classes that put children in vulnerable situations. All of Joanna's programs are conducted in public facilities with parents in the room during the 1 hour of instruction. Joanna & staff encourage parents to stay and watch all of their children's classes.

In the 40 years of doing business as Joanna's Kids "R" It, Joanna has never had a liability claim, let alone a claim for sexual assault or molestation. However the park district is not conducting it's own due diligence in assessing the risk of a SAM claim based on the individual programs they offer. Instead the District is brushing a broad stroke for all programming that involve children. Joanna has requested an extension of the current July 1st deadline, but will not receive a response until 6/20.

We need to raise $5,500 by the end of this month average premium for SAM coverage is $4000.00-$5500.00) to keep our program alive. These funds will cover the cost of the insurance for the year, and give us the time we need to reorganize and plan for how we can address this cost in future years, or find another home for the programs.

Without your support, our kids could lose a safe space where they thrive physically, emotionally, and socially.
