Amelia's Heroes Skydive for CLIC Sargent
October 19 2018 is a date that will stay in the minds of Amelia’s family forever.
At the age of 8, Amelia was (and still is 2 years on) a girl full of life, who was winning dance competitions with her freestyle dancing, when she became unwell. It started with her saying her leg hurt and then her tummy. A few days later she was taken into hospital during the night as she felt so poorly. The next day they were given the news that every parent dreads...Amelia has leukaemia. Not only that, she has a rare form of leukaemia. She has low hypodiploid and is also carrying the TP53 cancer gene. She started chemotherapy straight away, spending a lot of time at the Bristol children’s hospital. For the last 2 years Amelia has been having chemotherapy, bone marrow tests, weekly bloods tests, so much medication and countless hospital stays but always with a smile. Unless she is in hospital she never misses a day of school and still goes to her dance classes, even taking part in a Christmas dance show. There wasn’t a dry eye in the audience! A true inspiration. She is now in the maintenance stage of her treatment and she will get to ring the end of treatment bell on 26th April 2021.
Throughout all of this CLIC have been a massive support to Paula and her family. Helping them every step of the way, helping fill in forms and ensuring the family know what help is out there for them. They are a charity that really do go above and beyond for families with children with cancer.
As said, Amelia, is the strongest, most inspirational little girl ever. Her courage throughout all of this would make anyone realise they can face any fear.
So ..... In honour of Amelia, Paula, Emily, Kayla & Jo are going to put brave faces on and face their biggest fear. Heights! On 9th May 2021 we will be jumping out of a plane at 10,000ft to raise money for a charity that have been amazing, to allow them to support more families like Amelia’s.
