I lost my mother (Jo-Ann Maletto) early Monday morning, after succumbing to injuries sustained in a horrific house fire Sunday afternoon. What makes this tragedy even harder this holiday season, is that I lost my father a decade ago, when I was 11 around Thanksgiving. My Dad died of liver disease. That was really when life became such a struggle for us both. I was diagnosed with ADEM a very rare disease and spent a few years in CHOP; the progression of which is Multiple Sclerosis.
Over the years, My mom had gotten much worse and she was in a lot of pain. My mother had COPD and Congestive heart failure. She had a hard time walking. She would barely get out of bed to do anything, not because she didn’t want to, but because she couldn’t. My mom meant the world to me. She was my best friend. She was a wonderful woman; she was kind, caring, compassionate and so funny! Making people work for a smile. She loved to cook. Her eyes would light up when she’d cook for other people it made her day! She really was the best cook and anyone that ate her food would agree!
I have no sisters or brothers – So, it’s me alone to finance the funeral expenses. My mother worked hard for what she had. She has no savings, there is no estate.
The money raised through this page will help alleviate the financial burden left by my moms sudden passing. I am asking for help with end of life costs and future expenses. Some of those things I am asking for help with is her viewing, flowers, funeral, travel, and headstone etc. We never were able to afford a proper viewing/burial for my father – but I’d like to do everything I can at this point in my life to make sure my mother is given the dignity she deserves. I think that would be what would make her smile. I know that life right now is hard for everyone with covid-19 but any amount will help. I am hoping that all of you can help us. Thank you for taking your time to read this. We would hope to meet our goal in January. I would like to lay my mother to rest as soon as I can.
