Help Jo-Ann & John Campbell after home devastated by fire
Donation protected
A devasting house fire has displaced our Cbay community members, Jo-Ann and John Campbell. Let's come together to provide emergency relief and support as they deal with this tremendous loss and begin to rebuild. The Campbells have been members of our community for many years and Jo-Ann has dedicated so much of her time (and expertise) keeping the entrance to the Bay beautiful.
As per Councilor Clarke Kelly: At approx. 22:30 (June 3, 2025), the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a single-family home in the 100 block of Charmont Way was on fire with a resident trapped on a second-floor balcony. Upon arrival, Firefighters confirmed the front of the home was fully engulfed in smoke and flames and the resident who was trapped on the second-floor balcony had jumped off to escape. Another resident confirmed everyone had evacuated the home. There were only two occupants home at the time of the fire.
Firefighters established a medical sector and assessed and treated both occupants of the home. One of the residents sustained minor burns to their hands while trying to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters advanced multiple hose lines towards the home. An aerial ladder was set up at the scene to attack the fire from above. This home is in an area of the City with no hydrants, so a water shuttle system was set up using our tanker trucks to bring water to the scene from a nearby water source.
At 22:49. there was a partial structural collapse of the home. At 23:54, Firefighters were evacuated out of the structure.
There were three cats reported to be inside the home. Firefighters located one cat inside that had succumbed to their injuries from the fire. One cat was found deceased during a forensic search and a third cat is still missing, presumed deceased. The fire was declared under control at 00:15.
Any amount you can give—no matter how small—will go directly toward temporary housing, basic necessities and replacing essential items.
Please spread the word and share this fundraiser with our community.
Thank you for your support and compassion.
