Help Joan, an 87 year old woman living alone, get hearing aids
Hi everyone. I started this fundraiser to help my friend Joan purchase hearing aids. Joan lives alone and COVID plus a bad hip keep her pretty confined to the house. So for Joan, the phone is an important connection to the outside world. Unfortunately, she has difficulty hearing, which makes telephone conversations extremely challenging. And in-person interactions are not much better.
Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover hearing aids, and Joan is on a fixed income and cannot afford the $2,800 to purchase them.
Joan is a single woman, with no siblings or children and her closest relatives are cousins in Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia, Illinois, and California . She was born and raised in Chicago, where she worked as an administrative assistant before moving to the Bay Area in the 1990s. She eventually settled in San Diego for retirement, which she loves. Joan lives alone, and one of things she always looks forward to is her friend/landlord bringing his golden retriever Leo by to keep her company.
Joan is a curious person who likes reading, art, music, and meeting new people – all of which are hard to do when you can’t hear. At 87, she is still going strong and is incredibly independent and has an inspiring ability to advocate for herself. But her hearing difficulty hinders these characteristics and is affecting her quality of life. And its only getting worse. So we’re trying to reach out to her network to see if we can help her purchase hearing aids. Any donation amount would help and is very much appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to read about Joan and for considering donating.
