I’m Julie and my mum Joan Withington was a relatively active 86 year old until she was diagnosed with late stage liver cancer 5 months ago.

It has been an extremely difficult time.

She spent a month in hospital undergoing procedures so that she could have a little more time to spend with her family, otherwise they said that she would die in 2 or 3 weeks.

We had no idea previously that my mum had this terrible disease. Although she had some mobility issues she was able to go out food shopping, enjoy trips to the park and the seaside and go to pubs and restaurants with her family.

She was still enjoying life and I thought she would be around us laughing and joking for many more years.
