JOAN DUNN Help us get her home

Donation protected
On Friday, July 19, 2019, my mom, Joan Dunn, left our home in Watkinsville, GA to go visit family in Alabama. She had almost made it there when she was in a very serious car accident. She fell asleep at the wheel and her truck ran off an embankment crashing into the trees and eventually catching fire. My mom was pulled out of her truck by the angels that stopped to help her and was air lifted to the Huntsville Trauma Center in Huntsville, AL.  She had some brain bleeds and a concussion. She broke 10 of her ribs, 5 on each side. She also broke her hip, pelvis, tibia, femur and shattered her right leg causing the bone to protrude out. She aspirated which also caused her to get pneumonia after she was in the hospital. She has had 2 surgeries on her leg. She spent almost 2 weeks on a rotoprone bed trying to help her lungs. She had to have a port put into her chest because she also began having fluid build up inside of her chest cavity putting pressure on her lungs. They finally did a trachesotomy because she was unable to handle coming off the ventilator and had already been on the breathing tubes for over 3 weeks. This past month has been so overwhelming and hard. My sister, Brandy Verner, and I are driving back and forth from Athens, GA to Huntsville, AL every week. We spent the 1st 2 weeks basically at the hospital the whole time, missing work and also putting aside our responsibility to our families to be there for our mom. My mom's sister, Vivian and Pam, and her mother, Modean live about an hour away from the hospital and they also travel back and forth to be with her but have many struggles themselves. We have been trying to get her moved back to Athens so that we are better able to take care of her. She hates being by herself and is so uncomfortable. And it is so hard to leave her there by herself when no one is able to get up there to be with her. Our family has worn ourselves completely thin physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially. We know that we serve an Almighty God and have faith that He will carry us thru all of this, as He already has. We know that He has His hand on my mom and we trust Him completely with her recovery. We are reaching out to our friends now asking for any help you can give. Mom's insurance will not cover the transportation to get her to the long term facility in Athens. It will cost $3700 up front just to get her here so we can care for her better as well as care for ourselves and our own families. She has to be transported by the critical care transport since she is still on the ventilator. We need her home so bad and she needs to be home. My children miss their nana so bad. She has such a long road of recovery ahead of her and there are a lot of things we are going to need for her and are just simply unable to handle it all on our own. We are so grateful for all the prayers and help we have already received there just aren't any words. We have some of the most amazing family and friends anyone could ask for and couldn't have possibly made it this far without everyone support. Please continue to pray for her healing and comfort as well as strength for our family. If u can't donate, please share. Every prayer, every share, every donation, every kind word is what gets our family thru this day to day. God bless every person that takes the time to read this.
