Thanks to the incredible generosity of friends and family, we were able to reach our original fundraising goal three years ago. Unfortunately, Joan’s treatment has brought new complications and additional medical expenses that we could not have anticipated. Because of this, we have increased the goal to help cover these new costs as Joan continues her healing journey.
A Note From Joan:
Dear Friends,
Happy Spring to all ❤️
Many of you have followed my health journey over the years, and I am so grateful for the love and support that has carried me through.
For 14 years, I was incredibly fortunate — my cancer remained benign and I was able to avoid chemotherapy and radiation.
In 2019, however, the cancer returned and was diagnosed as infiltrating ductal carcinoma. By 2022, the tumor had grown close to my chest wall, and I made the difficult decision to have surgery.
Since then, my wonderful oncologist has guided me through treatment with a three-part endocrine therapy: a monthly injection, a daily pill, and a bone-protective medication called Zometa. I have continued with regular PET scans and checkups, and recently received encouraging news when my oncologist reviewed my latest scan and said:
“Joan, you are medically mundane — and stay that way!”
Hearing those words brought such relief.
Unfortunately, one of the medications that has helped protect my bones has also caused a rare but serious side effect called osteonecrosis of the jaw. This condition has created an open wound in my lower jaw where the bone cannot properly heal, leading to infections, pain, and ongoing discomfort.
Because of this, I will be traveling to Long Island on Thursday, March 12 for jaw surgery to repair the damage. My surgery is scheduled for 11:30 AM, and if you happen to think of me at that time, I would be so grateful for your prayers, light, and love. ❤️
While I remain hopeful and positive about the surgery, the reality is that years of treatments and medical complications have left me struggling to keep up with mounting medical bills.
This is why I am humbly asking for your help.
If you are able, please consider making a donation to help with my medical expenses. And if donating is not possible, sharing this campaign with others would mean so much.
Every act of kindness — whether a donation, a share, or a prayer — truly makes a difference.
I am deeply grateful for my extended family and friends who have supported me with so much love throughout this journey. Your encouragement has carried me through some very difficult moments.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with me.
I will keep you updated.
With love and gratitude,
Joan ❤️
