This fund is going to support my dad, Update : As some of you may know, our family has gone through quite a bit in the past few weeks. A lot of people have been asking how my father, Jeff Mellon, is doing, so here is an update on our family!
Two weeks ago my father was rushed to the ER due to vomiting blood. It was so out of control that OGH decided to intibate and had him sent Mercy Flight to Buffalo General. They had him in an induced coma for just over 24 hours to try to get a handle on his bleeding and find the source of bleeding. It took the hospital about 3 days to get to the point where they could do a scope and found out that he had 3 ulcers that ruptured. My father spent 5 days in the ICU before he was able to return home. My mom was not able to stay with him in the ICU and had to travel back and forth between Olean and Buffalo every days as she waited for results and answers.
Once he was back home, he started not to feel well, and had a lot of lower back pain. Only a few days after he came home from Buffalo his doctor told him to go back to the ER in Olean to get to the bottom of his discomfort/pain. Dad was admitted to the hospital initially because his blood count was low and they had to give a blood transfusion. As he stayed they discovered that he had developed blood infection. He stayed at OGH for 5 more days. He returned home yesterday with 4 antibiotic treatments a day via IV for 2-4 weeks. When this treatment is done, they will do another ECHO cardiogram to make sure that this infection didn't damage his heart.
He is now home trying to get back into his normal routine, resting and ready to get better!
Thank you for all your encouragement and donations, they really make a difference in my parents lives! It has been a crazy year and a half through his journey through cancer and the other medical issues he has dealt with since! Every little thing helps, and we couldn't imagine this journey without you!
Orginial Support request: This fund is going to support my dad, Jeff Mellon, who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Throat Cancer. Jeff is self employed and supports his family, and with treatment starting January 5th 2015, he will be off work for up to 6 months.
His treatments are 5 days a week for 7 weeks and will have to travel for those treatments. Jeff and his family live in Olean, NY, and he will be receiving treatment at Roswell Park in Buffalo, which is approximately 2 hours (not including the winter weather).
He has found a place to stay during the week at the Kevin Guest House close to Roswell, which is a hospitality house for patients going through treatments like chemo, radiation, etc. The cost is $25 per night, and with 7 weeks of treatment, he will need to cover the cost at the Kevin Guest house on top of the other expenses.
We thank you all for the support, prayers, and all donations in advance!!
