Jo Walker Meador was an amazing woman whose influence on country music is still felt today. She joined the Country Music Association in 1961, became its head in 1958, and led the organization until 1991. Jo was instrumental in starting the CMA Awards, Fan Fair (now CMA Fest), and the Country Music Hall of Fame. She played a key role in making country music an international phenomenon, and her dedication shaped the industry for generations to come.
I began this documentary before the pandemic, inspired by Jo’s encouragement and my own passion for video storytelling. With the help of Judy Turner, who interviewed Jo, and Sam Burns, who believed in the project and served as editor, we captured interviews with many people who knew and admired Jo. The pandemic brought everything to a halt, but I stayed in touch with Jo, sharing our progress. After Jo’s passing, I returned to the project, determined to finish what we started. With renewed support, we filmed new interviews and completed the documentary, honoring Jo’s legacy and the impact she had on so many lives.
Now, the documentary is finished, and I hope to premiere it at the Ford Theater in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. To make this event possible, I need support to cover the theater rental and provide food for guests. Anyone who contributes will be invited to the premiere, joining in the celebration of Jo Walker Meador’s remarkable life and legacy. Your support will help bring this story to the community and honor a true pioneer of country music.
