Help Jo fundraise for Top Surgery

Hey, thanks for coming to my page.

My name is Jo. I'm non-binary trans and looking for help to afford life changing top surgery. The costs of surgery and related care are really high and not something I can afford on my own. It would be incredible to fundraise all of this but I'm also saving up and doing what I can to help myself.

After decades of dissociating, the past few years I have spent dreaming of feeling present and comfortable in my body. It's taken me a long time and a lot of work to come back to myself. I've been binding my chest every day for nearly 2 years now and every day I feel more urgency to be free of it. I can't wait to never bind again, to wear the outfits I want, to go swimming in just shorts. I don't really know how to describe what getting this surgery would mean for me, but I know it will be one of the best things I'll ever do for myself.

NHS wait times for gender-affirming care are so long it’s f***ed up. It shouldn’t take 5-10 years to get lifesaving care. This is why I have decided to pursue top surgery privately where hopefully I won’t have to wait more than a year or two. I thought it would be best to start fundraising now.

I would be so grateful to anyone who can donate (even if it's just a few quid!) and share this page with others. I don't have the final costs* yet but I'll adjust the total once I know. The target I've put here aims to cover the surgery and consultations (around £9-10k), referral appointments and signatures (£500-1k). If I end up exceeding my target I will be donating extra proceeds to other trans folk who are fundraising for gender-affirming care.

*Update (Oct '23)* I have booked in my initial appointments with a gender clinician for referral, chosen a surgeon and can update the target to reflect the total costs. I've decided to go abroad for surgery, as it's much cheaper! Most likely Sweden but tbc. I have a consultation booked with a surgeon in Sweden in January :)

£600 for assessment, £200 for consultation including travel, £4500 for surgery, £1650 for flights, accom, food and public transport, for me and my partner to look after me for 2 weeks in Sweden = £6950, plus a bit to cover the gofundme fees.
