Hi, I’m Kayleigh and I am starting a gofundme to assist with my dog Barney’s vet fees. On Tuesday night Barney was rushed into emergency surgery with suspected Gastric dilatation-volvulus, he was given a 50:50 chance of making it. During the surgery this was confirmed and rectified and Barney was being monitored in the ICU. On Wednesday afternoon he started showing signs of discomfort and fluid build around the surgery site. The vet confirmed that he will need another surgery with a 50:50 chance of success. Before the surgery he will need a heart scan to make sure he can handle another anaesthetic and some imaging to see if they can diagnose the issue before surgery to give him a better chance. During the surgery they will put in a feeding tube as he is not eating. He will also have a central line installed as he has swelling on his limbs which limits the effectiveness of a normal cannula and will enable them to give him essential sugars and plasma if necessary. So far the estimate is around £20K, only £12K of which is covered by insurance. There could be more treatment required after. A heart scan has revealed an that his heart is enlarged and slightly weak which could also imply DCM although we can’t say for sure, this would require ongoing checks and treatment.

The vet’s have been amazing and are looking at assistance, but if anyone can help bridge the gap, I would be extremely grateful.

I originally got Barney from Birmingham Dogs Home in 2021 just before he turned one. He has been let down so many times in his short life and been through so many struggles, I really want to help him get through this. Anyone who helps will receive a special Barney gift in the new year.
