Damien Smith is a proud father of a teenage daughter named Nyli. Damien is a great father, loyal friend and is very supportive of his friends and family. He is quiet and a prideful man who typically embraces life's challenges and obstacles on his own. Asking for assistance is very hard for him. However he never thought he would face the challenge that's ahead of him now.  Damien recently found out that he has been diagnosed with end stage heart failure and cirrhosis of the liver. He was informed that if he wanted to live he would need to get on a heart transplant list. Unfortunately he has been in and out the hospital for his congestive heart failure, hypertension, diabetes and gout over the years. These conditions have been debilitating, extremely difficult and has altered his life significantly. At times he has been in extreme pain from gout flair up's and weak due to the inefficiency of his heart. A lot of times he isn't able to walk more than a few steps before having to sit and catch his breath. He has a lot of sleepness nights worried and wondering if this breath will be his last.

Navigating this diagnosis will be one of the most challenging obstacles he will ever face in life. He has conveyed his thoughts of concern to his family during some of his low points. Thinking about the steep climb ahead and wondered if he has the mental stamina to withstand the hard knocks of this journey ahead. This diagnosis has been a lot to process but he is determined to face it with optimism and get the best care possible.  Damien is determined to fight for his health, not only for his own sake but also for the sake of his daughter. Nyli is his biggest motivation to live. He wants to be there to see her grow up, achieve her dreams, and share all of the moments that life has to offer.

After researching different options, Damien and his family have made the decision for him to check into a specialized medical facility in Texas. They have a high success rate of providing effective treatments for people with his condition. Damien and his family, think this is the right step towards improving his health and quality of life. However, the cost of the medical treatments and transportation are expensive, so we have set up a Go Fund Me account on Damien's behalf.
