Eliana A Ewers - Neuroblastoma
Donation protected
My name is Brendon Ewers. My daughter Eliana Adrielle Ewers, was born on Aug 17, 2014. My wife received a non-planned ultrasound during her 3rd trimester because my wife told her prenatal physician that she thought our daughter was sitting sideways in her abdomen and had not turned head down. The physician ordered an ultrasound to verify if that was the case. At that time she was found to have a mass on the top of her right adrenal gland, which we all have one of each on top of each kidney. The radiology report was strongly suggestive that she needed to be considered for neuroblastoma cancer. We were immediately referred to the specialty hospital to the oncology unit at C&S Motts hospital at the U of M Ann Arbor, MI. My wife and Eliana were admitted to the hospital for approximately 10-days, during which she received multiple imaging studies to include repeat ultrasound of her abdomen, bone scan, MRI of her abdomen and finally a scan called an MIBG scan, which is highly specific for the test to look the tumor specifically and if any other cancerous cells had located to any other areas of the body. At that time we were informed that the tumor was located primarily "only" on the right adrenal. As a result of these test results, it was determined that the cancer was staged at a level-1. Based on these findings, we were told that the tumor should be monitored every 3months by urinalysis and repeat abdominal ultrasound. During the next visit to her local doctor in the upper peninsula of Michigan. For the first two repeat visits, the urinalysis results were dropping and the ultrasound results showed minimal growth and even a lack of blood supply, which would support that the tumor may have been scarring down and no further intervention would be required. Upon our most recent visit to the U of M oncology doctors, it was found that there were two spots on her liver that were not previously identified and that now surgery is strongly recommended. She has a repeat ultrsound scheduled for Monday January 5th, 2014, with surgery to follow sometime shortly thereafter. We are Lutheran christians and are hopeful in our risen Savior and Lord Jesus Christ that he has our little daughter in his safe and loving arms to guide, protect and provide for her no matter what may happen. We hope and pray that he will bless us with the continued life of our daughter Eliana. However, if not we know that she will be in heaven safe and we will again see her soon.
