On Tuesday morning Savannah was hit by a car while biking to teach her fitness class.
While in the bike lane, a car hit her, throwing her off her bike. Thankfully with Gods tender mercy, the driver stayed with her, calling the ambulance and she was able to get prompt medical attention.
She has a small c spine fracture and a small fracture in the base of her skull. She had a torn ear, which has been stitched, some serious bruising on her right shoulder an ac joint strain in that shoulder and various bruising throughout. They don't know how serious the concussion is yet but so grateful there has been no brain swelling or bleeding (so grateful she was wearing a helmet) The tears in her ligament on her 2nd vertebrae and skull need to heal otherwise they will need to operate and fuse them together, resulting in limited neck mobility.
The biggest mountain Savannah will have to climb is mentally. As so many have been touched by Savannah’s enthusiasm for life and for making a difference in this world, you know this is a blow to not only her daily life but some pretty big goals she has dedicated hours to. With the triathlon competition season soon to begin and her eyes on the Worlds competition in October, all has been placed on hold while she heals her body. We know she will fight her way back but for now she has gone from training eight hours a day to having to keep her neck/back immobile.
She has brought so much hope, laughter, inspiration and love to many. We are hoping to call upon her friends and family to rally around her at this time. One of her biggest stressors right now is financial as she does online consulting work and teaches fitness classes, both she is unable to do right now. The minimum recovery will be six months and some long term rehabilitation. Concussions and neck injuries are tricky and the long term impact is unknown. We pray this will allow her to focus on healing and not worry about making ends meet.
We know God has this remarkable young woman in His arms and thank Him every day she is still with us. Anyone who knows Savannah knows that building community and bringing people together to lift one another is her driving motivation behind all she does. I hope we can build that community for her now.
Thank you to everyone for your outpouring of love and concern.
