The below is taken from a text message from Robert's mum Emilie:
"Robert's health problems began on Mother's Day in 2022 with hospital visits every other week. His health issues began with a chest infection and a number of viruses, landing him in ICU numerous times over the last 6 months and after seeing a respiratory specialist, Robert was diagnosed as asthmatic.
However, recently Robert's health suddenly took a turn for the worst:
After presenting to Singleton hospital on Sunday 5th March for what we thought might be another chest infection, turned into a dramatic night that included a trip to Maitland by ambulance, where his observations were coming back at 100%. Robert became extremely lethargic and couldn’t hold his head up. Lucky for us the doctor that night sent us for a CT scan and found a lot of fluid and swelling on his brain.
We were then transferred to John Hunter Hospital by the critical care retrieval ambulance and went straight in for emergency surgery to install a temporary drain, to remove the fluid from his brain. At this time Robert was put into an induced coma to allow his brain to recover. On Tuesday, an MRI was completed revealing a problem with the optic nerves, so we were then referred to an oncologist.
On Wednesday, Robert underwent surgery to install a permanent brain shunt, and early Thursday morning he was brought out of the coma.
The MRI showed he has enlarged optic nerves and a benign tumour. The condition is treatable and non-cancerous but treatment is chemotherapy."
