Hello family and friends. We want to start out by saying thank you for clicking on the link and reading Rick’s story, or even sharing the link so others can.
As a family, we are reaching out with a request for your help and support.
On Tuesday November 11, 2025 Rick went to the Emergency Room with pain in his knee . The doctors found an infection and diagnosed Rick with cellulitis in his knee. The infection continued to spread Wednesday and Rick began showing some confusion and increased pain in his back. Doctors become worried about him becoming septic. A scan was completed on his back and more infection was found in his spine. Thursday they transported Rick to another hospital so he could meet with the neurologist. At this point it became a race against time. Doctors wanted to do surgery as soon as possible as they were worried he could become paralyzed from the infection in his spine. Because Rick is on medication for blood clots, his blood was too thin to operate. On Friday doctors and nurses worked hard to thicken his blood as fast as they could. Rick’s pain continued to increase along with his confusion. Saturday November 15, 2025 Rick had surgery on his back, a laminectomy. By the grace of God surgery was successful.

During the past week Rick has been recovering at the hospital in Sioux City. The infection is getting better but they will continue to treat the infection with an IV over the next month. His confusion has taken a long time to go away however we are seeing signs of the fun loving guy he is.

He recently moved to Madonna in Omaha and the plan is for him to rehab there for the next month. After a month of rehab Rick will move to assisted living until he can come home. We are praying he can move to assisted living in Sergeant Bluff.

Our family is so thankful to have Rick with us. We are starting to realize how long his recovery will be. Rick is learning how to walk all over again. Right now he is working on sitting up on his own and scooting himself from his bed.

Unfortunately, Rick’s employer does not have short term disability and his wife Marcia is scheduled to have a full knee replacement this week. This leaves Rick and Marcia with no income until both can get back to work.

We humbly ask for your contributions, no matter the amount, to ease the financial burden on Rick and Marcia while they both recover. Your support truly makes a difference in their lives.

Your kindness, prayers, donations and simply sharing this link are greatly appreciated! Thank you for being a part of this journey with us all.
