Medical Bills

Update: 3/20/24

We have been trying to wait till we had more info on monies needed for Ken’s new cancer treatments. All we know right now is that new immunotherapy has been approved through September. And an estimate of approximately $6,000 for those treatments.

However, I want to go ahead and give you all the good news we have received lately. Ken’s PET Scan results came back with good news. It said things like “decreased activity”…”almost resolved…”. The oncologist told us to go out and celebrate. However, immunotherapy will continue for the foreseeable future.

Results for Debbie show that all her liver numbers have improved in just the last 6 months. This is another indicator that she got the real drug and not a placebo in her liver trial. She should be in the liver trial for another two and a half years.

Other good items are that other prayers are being answered. Several of our monthly bills have decreased for various reasons, which is a great blessing. We have also been able to cut our budget in several other ways.

Ken’s brother’s house has been shown several times in the last three weeks. Prayers that we soon get an offer would be appreciated. It is not only taxing on our financial situation, but on our mental health.

Other items…before radiation Ken had to have a dental checkup because radiation to the neck and face can have a bad effect on the teeth. He had to have one tooth pulled but had no cavities. Now a year after radiation has finished, he had five cavities. With money received from your generosity Ken was able to get two of the cavities repaired, but still has three more that need done. Also, Ken’s follow ups continue for his previous abdominal aortic aneurysm. At one point they thought it was leaking, but the last scan showed it to be okay. They do scans every six months to check on it. Also, Ken has now officially been diagnosed with heart failure. The cardiologist gave him a notebook that he is supposed to take to every doctor’s appointments and he has to record his blood pressure, etc. every day.

Now that treatments are only once a month, Debbie should be able to go back to substituting at school soon which will help with some of the bills.
