Alex's seizure service dog

Meet Alex...Pre-Tumor: Artist, Chef, welder, contractor, hiker, mountain biker pretty much an all around Superwoman with the world at her feet...until she started loosing feeling in her face, legs and soon could not function...in 2005 Alex had brain surgery to remove a angionoma malformation that was causing her to be paralyzed from the waist down. Alex survived the surgery and faced a long recovery. Alex had to learn to read again, feed herself and do daily tasks that most of of us take for granted. It was a tough, long road, but she fought and regained most of her function back. As the months went on, she started having these unexplained seizures that had most neurologists stumped, until we met the late Dr. Autumn Klien. She found that the seizures were coming from her heart, electrical misfires which after much testing we learned cannot be treated with medicine or surgery. Alex was deemed fully disabled in 2009 Because of these seizures. She cannot be left alone, cannot hold a job, or do most daily things alone. After all this, Alex still manages to stay positive, grateful for everyday she wakes up and tries to maintain her independence. We were recently informed that Alex would benefit from a seizure service dog, that these dogs can sense when you are going to have a seizure, alert you and get you to a safe place. They can also get you on your side while having a seizure and clear your airways. These dogs can get help, alert people to help and keep their owner safe until help arrives. When we heard this, it was the answer we have been looking for, however health insurance or disability does not help with the expenses of training or purchase of this dog. We were shocked to see how expensive they are, but in researching them and the amount of work that goes into having these special animals, it is a small price to pay. Alex now has hope to regain some freedom, strength and get back to doing things she loves with confidence and safety. Let's get her this dog, or savior she calls him/or her. No amount is to small. I thank you in advance for reading her story and I cannot tell you how grateful we are for any donation. A million thanks from the bottom of our hearts.
