My name is Jess Medlock. Originally from Alabama, I have been serving at Graffiti 2 Community Ministries in the Bronx since September 2010. Just as I believe the Lord called me here 5 years ago for that purpose, I feel that He is now leading me to minister in a different area of NYC. While I will still be an active member of Graffiti 2 Baptist Church, I plan to begin a new ministry called Footlights, which will take me to the Theater District of Manhattan to serve people who work and study there in the Arts. I hope to build relationships with many of these young aspiring actors, actresses, dancers, musicians and others, and hope to some day bring these new friends together with my friends in the Bronx to share in artistic endeavors. A footlight in the theater is a light that is located on the edge of the stage and illuminates the actors and the sets from the ground upward. The number one purpose of Footlights is to let the light of Christ shine in the Theater District. I started fundraising 5 years ago and now, at the age of 55, I find myself once again starting over. Being 100% self-funded, I need funds as soon as possible, not only for ministry, but also for living expenses, including health insurance. God has given me a passion for the arts and for those who are involved in them, and I intend to pursue this passion to the fullest for His glory. I am only asking for funds enough to get started the first few months, at which time I hope to generate funds by selling subscriptions to an online film review newsletter I am about to begin. I have wanted to be a writer since high school and hope to generate additional income through other writing projects. In addition, I hope to have my first self-published novel, called The Mott Haven, ready in the Spring and would love to give you a free ebook download upon its completion.
