Food for Maui. Recent storms dumped a historic 46 inches of rain on Maui over 5 days. That's nearly 4 feet of water, running from the mountain to the sea, right through your yard. Roads and beaches washed away, cars were pushed blocks away by the rain, the mud is everywhere, South Kihei Road was closed for 2 days, and even the Target store flooded. Friends and family were without power for over 2 days, and one friend had to toss all their food in their freezer and refrigerator. Maui no ka oi - is the best island - but sadly, is not the best at quickly repairing infrastructure. I am a hapa-kamaina - I spent my childhood summers in Kihei when Kukui Mall was a kaiwe field and visit Maui 2 or 3 times a year to see family and friends. I am hosting a mini fundraiser to use the first $700 to quietly help a friend restock their refrigerator with food, and then donate the remainder to the Maui Food Bank, the Maui Community Fund, and the Kihei Canoe Club. Below, in the photos that is the water washing away the road along Kihei Canoe Clubhouse in the 2nd photo and the total erosion of the beach in the 3rd. If you've enjoyed the beauty of visiting Maui, would you please pitch in $100 or $50 to share some aloha?
