I'm Tanyr Kersey. I'm setting up a gofundme account in regard to my step father Steve Routh. All proceeds will go to his on going medical expeses. Here is Steve's story on his very long road to recovery.
In the early morning hours of November 16th, 2014 Steve had a bad fall down a large flight of stairs in his home in Williston ND. He was life flighted to Trinity Hospital in Minot ND where he spent about 4 weeks in the ICU due to a tramtic brain injury. He underwent CT scans daily due to bleeding and swelling on the brain.Steve spent the first 6 days in a medically induced coma, on a ventilator and feeding tube. On Day 6 they where able to remove the ventilator. For the rest of his time at Trinity the feeding tube stayed in place. He developed an infection in his arm from where his IVs where placed. He underwent surgery to clean out some of the bacteria located in his left arm. Unfortunely the infection had already traveled through out his body and into his blood stream. He was placed on muliple antibotics to try to get rid of it.
From Trinity he was transported by ambulance to Vibra in Mandan ND to further go his recovery. When we arrived at Vibra they found pneumonia in one lung, it was treated along with his on going infection. He was also still on the feeding tube. While in Vibra Steve finally started to remember who people were and his surroundings. (his memory comes and goes). He began to SLOWLY work on his motor skills (walking, standing, talking etc). As of Christmas Eve he has been moved to St. Alexis in Bismark ND where he is now located. Once moved to St. Alexis he went through more testing. We where informed his sodium levels where very low. We are now working on getting his sodium levels back up. Steve is now off his feeding tube and starting to be able to feed himself. Steve still has been on a long road to recovery and still has a long way to go.
The family would like to thank every one for the prayers and support.
Anything helps!
