Finding "Duke's" Forever Home
Donation protected
UPDATE 10/29/2021:
Hi all! Recently, Duke suffered a setback. After a horrible bout of vomiting, the Pilarte's (his fosters) took Duke to the emergency clinic. Bloodwork revealed elevated liver enzymes associated with dogs that have experienced a form of trauma. We continue to learn the repercussions of the horrific abuse he suffered and the health challenges associated. Duke ended up spending two nights at the clinic: the positive news is his prognosis is good, and he is once again on the right track––healthwise.
This setback did come at a high financial cost ($4.5k), and we are asking if you are in a position to contribute to please do so. No amount is too small to help cover the additional expense. We want to continue to help Duke find the forever home that he deserves after his life of hell.
As for our search for a rescue group, we have been advised by rescue volunteers that is best to wait for Duke's health to improve. Fortunately, the Pilarte's are fully committed in Duke's recovery and will continue to foster until he is accepted into a rescue group.

This is a picture of “Duke,” who was first spotted in the Larchmont neighborhood on October 11th. After many unsuccessful attempts from neighbors, “Duke” was safely captured two days later, on October 13th. A wonderful family with four dogs offered to keep him overnight and sweetly offered to take him to the vet this morning.

After many unsuccessful attempts from neighbors, “Duke” was safely captured two days later, on October 13th. A wonderful family with four dogs offered to keep him overnight and sweetly offered to take him to the vet this morning.
The vet visit revealed some heartbreaking details regarding “Duke’s” physical condition: it turns out this gentle giant is only two years old, and for such a short life, the neglect is evident. He has an abscess on his head the size of a softball, most likely caused by an infection stemming from a collar or rope cutting into his neck. His ears are cut all the way off: no flap or stub left. He has also been limping for several days, the cause yet to be determined. The good news is “Duke” is on his way to receiving the care and medications he desperately needs.
“Duke” will be staying overnight at Sunset Animal Clinic on Southwest Freeway. The Pilarte family has graciously offered to foster “Duke” for a week as we desperately search for another foster, shelter, or rescue. We all feel he deserves a chance.
Right now, we have paid $441 on his first round of medical bills and overnight care for this evening. Donations are welcomed for additional medical bills (vaccinations, neutering, medications) and additional care outside of fostering. Please send me a private message, and I can tell you how to donate. Every dollar will go to “Duke”.
Lastly, so much gratitude goes to the neighborhood of Larchmont for coming together and getting “Duke” to safety. Let’s find him his forever home.
