Joseph's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
As many of you know, Joseph works with his stepdad. He loves what he does and they do construction and a lot of roofing.
Monday, 04/11/16 was a typical day but pretty windy. They were on a roof in Chase City, VA and the wind pushed Joseph backwards where he fell 30+ feet to the ground.
Miraculously, he landed on his feet but sustained some pretty serious injuries that will keep him out of work for a minimum of 6-12 months with no pay. Sadly, Joseph also does not have health insurance because it was too expensive to add him to his wife's plan through her job and there is no Worker's Compensation plan as he is self-employed.
His right foot is broken in two places & the heel. They said those should heal on their own but he cannot walk on it for several weeks. He has a compression fracture in his back & will be wearing a TLSO back brace at all times for the next several weeks.
His left leg is bad. He broke both bones in the lower part 4-5 times each and shattered his ankle & the lower part of his tibia & fibula. His first surgery was 04/12/16 and 3 pins will be placed as well as 2 rods on the outside to stabilize his leg over the next two weeks to help reduce swelling and the risk of compartmental syndrome.
He will come back to VCU in 2 weeks for a major, reconstructive surgery on his ankle. After that surgery he will not use that leg for a minimum of 3 months.
This page is to help Joseph and his family while he is out of work with no pay and to help with medical and travel expenses for ongoing procedures & follow ups.
Tiffany would like to thank you all for the prayers and sweet messages as they begin this long road to recovery.
