JJ's Final Expenses
My Dad Joseph John Shaffer III passed away August 11, 2021.
He grew up in Milton-Freewater OR and we have made arrangements with Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home there for his cremation and memorial service.
Unfortunately, Dad and his wife were unprepared for final expenses. For many years they lived paycheck-to-paycheck on his Social Security income. A year ago he was finally rated at 50% service-related disability and began to receive VA disability payments. However, they were perpetually playing catch-up due to so many years of strained finances. There was a time Dad made a great income, but after his second or third major stroke in 2011/2012, he was unable to work any longer.
Dad spent his whole life generous to a fault. He helped whomever/whenever/however he could. I have set up fundraisers for him in years past, and we have been very very grateful for the support that has been so kindly given. I'm not sure he fully understood where the money in those times came from, but I did
So, here I am asking one last time for help for Dad. We believe he will be eligible for a small benefit from the VA, and something from Social Security as well, so we are working to get those, too. Family will of course pitch in as they are able. His service is set for 9/11, and we need to have Munselle-Rhodes paid by that time. I know that some prefer to use a different platform to give; if that's the case please message me about PayPal and other means.
Please know that our family appreciates so much all the condolences and stories, the expressions of love for this very loving man. Whether you're able to give $5 or continued emotional & spiritual support, it is all absolutely invaluable to us. I can't tell you how much good it does to hear how others loved him, too. I knew he had friends, but I'm not sure I knew the extent of how loved he was. It has helped to begin healing this daughter's broken heart to learn all that I have these past few days. Thank you for sharing about him.
