On May 16th, Porter Fuchs sustained a traumatic injury to his left eye. His parents, Ryan and Abby, rushed him to the emergency room in Roseau, MN where they determined he would need to be transferred to U of M Children's in the cities for emergent eye surgery. After more than a 6-hour transfer to the hospital, Porter underwent eye surgery, and it was found that he sustained a global eye puncture and his iris was lacerated.

Porter will need to have multiple surgeries and follow-up appointments in the cities, which is very difficult for them as they reside in Lake of the Woods County. Ryan is a State Trooper in the Lake of the Woods and Roseau County area and will need to continue working while Abby brings Porter to the appointments and cares for their other two children (Beckham, 6, and Myles, 10 months).
