It started out as a small back ache in July. I went to physical therapy for months, thinking I had sciatica and poor posture. In late September, it started getting much worse. I couldn’t sleep at night. I would often sob for hours because I had a lower back pain and nerve pain that now ran down my entire lower body. I went back to my GP and she ordered an MRI. I couldn’t get in for weeks. When I did, the radiologist called my GP immediately. I can remember the call from her telling me that there was a large mass on my spine and bone. Not only that, but it had spread to my pelvis, liver and lung. I remember her telling me that this was more than likely cancer. My heart dropped and I felt like I was in a dream. Telling my husband and parents was gut wrenching. I was scared and I knew they were too. A week later, the PET scan confirmed the cancer. I had to leave my job and my work family, which I loved so much. I felt devastated. After a failed biopsy, I finally got in for neuro surgery to remove part of the largest mass in my spine and a second biopsy. I’m currently recovering from surgery and anxiously awaiting the results of the biopsy. This will give us the type of cancer, stage and treatment route. I have been overwhelmed with gratitude from the support I have received thus far. I am truly blessed with the most amazing support system. This cancer has challenged us in many ways. It is draining emotionally and financially. Any help beyond what you have all already given me is so appreciated. I’m ready to fight and I’m ready to take my life back.
